What is a stadium mast?
A stadium mast is a tall steel lighting mast that carries a bank of floodlights aimed at a playing field. It is used to light cricket grounds, football grounds, athletics tracks and sports complexes for night matches and training.
What is the difference between a stadium mast and a high mast?
A high mast lights the area all around it from a ring of lights at the top. A stadium mast carries a head frame that aims all its floodlights in one direction, towards the field, so the light falls on the play and not outside the ground.
How many masts does a ground need?
It depends on the size of the ground, the sport and the light level required. Football grounds are often lit from four corner masts, while cricket grounds usually need more masts around the boundary. The number, height and position come from the lighting design.
